the start and end of the filter specification. Spaces should separate multiple entries. For
instance the file like include filter:
*/furniture/* */appliances/*
will let SurfStatsLive only add log entries to the site profiles that contains /furniture/ and
/appliances/ in the filename requested.
Default Page is the name of the default page on the web site whose log files are being
analyzed, for instance default.asp. The program will use the default page name that you
specified when encountering a / as the last character in a file name request. If a visitor
clicks on a link to your website (or type in the name of your site in the browsers Address field)
and the URL does not contain an exact filename, e.g. http://www.surfstats.com/, the web
server will present the default page to the visitor as set in IIS. For IIS the default document(s)
presented can be changed on the Documents tab in Internet Services Manager (or similar IIS
administration tool).
Fill in the Web Site URL to point to the web site whose log files are being analyzed, for instance
http://www.mysite.com/ (the / at the end is important).
Setting Include Images in database will determine whether or not hits to image files in log
lines will be added to site profile databases or not. Selecting No will make a noteworthy
difference in performance. Also note that excluding images will lower the bandwidth values
reported by SurfStatsLive as the transfer of images constitute the bulk of the bandwidth used
on most web sites.
Setting Lookup page titles will make SurfStatsLive look up page titles for displaying the
contents of the <TITLE> html tags, which is useful in some reports, for instance the Most
Requested Pages report. This field will not display if page title lookups is disabled from the
Server Administration Options tab.
Important notes about page title lookups:
The Web Site URL for the site profile has to be filled in for the page title lookups to work.
Please note that page title lookups has to be enabled at a global level (in Server
Administration: Options tab Enable page title lookup).
Time offset will adjust the time zone of log entries before adding them to the specific site
profile database, which will also take the servers time zone in consideration. For instance if +2
is specified and the web server is in a time zone of GMT-05:00 for instance the following will
happen for a log entry that happens at 13:37 server time on a Windows IIS web server: IIS
will adjust the time of the log entry (hit) to 18:37 (that is 13:37 (-05:00)) and then add it to
the log file. When SurfStatsLive processes the log entry it will adjust the time of the entry
added to the site profile database to 20:37 (that is 18:37 + (+2)). When creating a new profile
the suggested value that is displayed in the time offset field is the GMT offset on the server.
Its best to stick with this suggested offset value, for instance if the server is set up for GMT-
05:00, then 5 will be displayed when creating a new site profile.
