Specifying Log Sources
SurfStatsLive can handle multiple log sources. Multiple log sources can be specified at the
profile group level as well as the site profile level.
One or more log sources can be specified on profile group level and at a site profile level to
specify where SurfStatsLive should get log data from to populate the specific site profile
database. Log sources can only be edited by a Server Administrator and not by a Profile
Administrator.
Log sources should preferably be located on the Local Area Network (LAN) on which the
SurfStatsLive server is located. This is because SurfStatsLive needs to obtain the log file data
(which may be a lot of data) from the log source.
Tips for specifying log sources:
If you need to access log sources from a remote computer with a UNC pathname (for
instance \\remoteserver\h$\logfiles\w3svc5) make sure that you set the user context that the
SurfStatsLive Merging Service runs under to a user with the necessary rights to access the log
files (Control Panel Administrative Tools Services
... Log On tab). UNC pathnames
should be used instead of mapped drive letters as mapped drives are not available when no
user is logged into the server computer.
If you need to access log files from a remote computer on another network, use a FTP
client (like FTP Voyager for instance) to schedule the collection of log files from the remote
computers. Let the FTP client collect the files and store it in a folder on the LAN and specify a
log source that points to the location on the LAN.
